The Lake Cumberland Decorative Artists meet the first Tuesday of each month at the West Somerset Baptist Church, 736 West Highway 80, Somerset, KY in the Fellowship Hall.
           10:00 am Meeting Starts

Tuesday   PAINTING CLASS  

Class:  Impressionist, street scene with flower boxes
Teacher:  Georgia White, Russell Springs, will be teaching February 1, 2011

Project:  There will be pattern and paint, Acrylics will be furnished.

 

Bring acrylic supplies, a liner script, one inch and flat chisel brushes, and a 16 X 20 canvas.

Class Cost:  $12.00   The club will have some 16x20 Canvas for sale for $7.00

 

 

 

~~~~~~PRESIDENTS MESSAGE~~~~~~~~~

Hi painters, hope you aren't snowed in like I am. I've been trying to paint but can't, there is just something about knowing that you can't get out.
It was really nice having so many ladies at club this month we painted memory boxes and everyone was beautiful.
We installed our new officer's, had a good lunch and laughed a lot .
MARK POLOMCHEK WILL BE HERE MARCH 25&26 if you haven't done watercolor before you will want to learn from Mark. He is a wonderful teacher
and a good entertainer he play's the piano for us.
Georgia White will be teaching our Feb class. You will need to bring a 16x20 canvas and your acrylic supply's. Bessie Bain will be teaching something on door's in March.
You will need to get your deposit in as quick as you can.

MINUTES  FROM THE LAKE CUMBERLAND DECORATIVE ARTISTS CLUB MEETING FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY2011

January 4, 2011
 
The Lake Cumberland Decorative Artists January meeting was held at the West Somerset Baptist Church on January 4, 2011.
 
President, Janie Kidd called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM
 
A Treasurer's Report was not given at this meeting.  Carol Skaggs will present the Treasurer's Report at the February Meeting. 
 
A Christmas gift of $200.00 was presented to Bro. Larry Butts for all his help in the past year. 
 
Membership dues of $15.00 are due.  Please remit payment to Judy Kirst, 326 Melrose Avenue, Somerset, KY - 42501
 
There were 14 members present, one new member, Amanda Thompson, who joined, and several members who came to visit for a short period of time. 
 
Mark Polomchak water color seminar is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 25 & 26, 2011.  Cost per day is $60.00 for members and $75.00 per day for non-members.  Sign up sheet was started and deposits (deposit amount was not decided) or full payment will be due at the February meeting.  Projects are "Koi Fish" and "Sailing Ship", (Not Mark's title names - just the subjects we are painting). 
 
Robert Warren seminar will be in September, 2011.  No other information available at this time regarding this seminar.
 
Our February meeting will be taught by Georgia White.  Subject will be "Faces".  We will have more information before the next meeting as to cost, subject, and supplies. 
 
Installation of new officers was done by Janie Kidd, President.  The officers for 2011 are:

After installation of officers and discussion of seminars, a motion was made by Barbara Schoolcraft to adjourn the meeting.  Seconded by Jeannette Cassada. 
 
Each member received a jar of hand cream from Ruth Ann Thompson/ Barbara Schoolcraft.  (Recipe follows)
 
Memory boxes were painted by members and lunch of Brocolli soup and finger foods was enjoyed by all.

I also use an artist miskit (prefer Windsor Newton colourless. Grumbacher
will do). The students will need to bring:

a. towel (kitchen size)

b. coffee can to hold the water

c. butcher tray or something to mix on (small sheet of plexi-glass works
well)

d. # 4 pencil

e. red pen (ball-point)

f. spray bottle (not a mist sprayer but a plant type spray bottle)

g. masking tape

h. transfer graphite (non-wax)

i.  toothbrush

We will trace the watercolor template (I will supply) then finish the
painting by the end of the day. Class will start around 10 a.m. and end
around 4 p.m.
Thank you again for the interest in my work and be prepared to work hard and
most importantly, to have a good time!
I will also bring framing materials, (frames, glass, double alpha mats,
foamcore backing, brads, flex wire, single strap hangers and dust cover). If
anyone is interested in getting their work framed the cost will run $80 per
painting. This is a student discount and is priced very reasonable.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to bring enough for everyone but I will
bring as many as I can. I can accept Visa and/or MasterCard so they can make
their decision after they are done painting.
I make it a habit of demonstrating during lunch. If anyone is interested in
watching me paint a painting during the lunch break please tell him or her
to bring a sack lunch if one is not provided. I will donate the demos to
your chapter to use in your best interest.

  The cost is $60.00  a day for member's and $75.00 for non member's. Membership dues are still $15.00.

Hand Cream
 
1 (8 ounce) jar Vitamin E Cream
2 cups Baby Lotion
4 tablespoons petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
 
Mix with wire whisk and pack in jars - enjoy!!!
 
 
Broccoli/Cauliflower Salad
 
I bunch broccoli, broken into bite size pieces
1 bunch cauliflower, broken into bite size pieces
 
1/3 cup vinegar
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sugar
 
Mix last three ingredients and toss with broccoli and cauliflower - enjoy!!!
 
 
Broccoli Soup
 
1 package frozen OreIda hash browns w/peppers, onions and pimento
8 oz package cream cheese
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 bunch broccoli
 
Put hash browns in pot, cover with water and cook for 20 to 25 minutes.
 
While potatoes are cooking: 
Soften cream cheese in microwave Mix cream cheese and soups together  Mix with potatoes in pot. Add broccoli and seasonings to taste.
